Have you ever heard the saying “you are your biggest critic”?
Think of all of the times you questioned yourself, times you didn’t think you were good enough or smart enough, times you didn’t think you’d be able to get through something.
It’s something people do all of the time.
So it’s time to make a change — give yourself the love, trust, and respect you deserve.
You are strong.
You are capable.
You are smart.
You are deserving.
You can do anything.
If you’re on a path to entrepreneurship but find yourself wavering in confidence — here are some mindset shifts that will feel like the world is your oyster.
Trust Your Leadership Skills
Trust is complicated in any relationship, even when it comes to the relationship you have with yourself. If you don’t trust that you are capable of something, well, you won’t end up being very good at it.
Leadership is like the bullseye in the middle of a dart board — you have to hit that mark to get the best results. And would you ever hit the mark if you didn’t believe that you could? Maybe. But chances would be so much higher if you did believe you could.
So how can you trust your leadership skills?
- Pinpoint the parts of leadership that you already have nailed down
- Keep working on the parts that are a little harder to crack
- Get leadership advice from trustworthy sources
- Practice and perfect any chance you get
Putting in the work and effort (and praising yourself for the things you have locked down) will give you the assurance that you’ve got this!
Be Forward Thinking
You’re done with corporate life. The time of following the leader is over — you ARE the leader.
It can be challenging to get your brain to recognize that fact. You might naturally be hesitant to trust in yourself to be the final decision. But that’s the beautiful thing about entrepreneurship! You’re in control.
It’s important to keep your creative juices flowing — research, experiment, reinvent.
Starting your business is going to be all about trial and error. Things are going to go wrong, things are going to go right, and things are going to be completely expected and unexpected.
Whatever you do — keep pushing the envelope and think outside the box!
Become A Problem Solver
Entrepreneurs have to embody a little bit of a detective side.
As Sherlock Holmes would say “It’s elementary, my dear Watson!”
Smooth sailing is not in the cards when it comes to business ownership. Issues are going to arise, challenges are going to present themselves, and questions are going to be part of the regular routine.
It’s going to be up to you to put the puzzle together one piece at a time.
…and take some risks!
Now don’t go crazy or anything, but every person in history who's made a significant impact took some risks.
It may be a little scary and that little voice of self preservation might try to hold you back — but it’s time to be bold and move forward!
Be Substantially Resilient
There’s always going to be a risk and reward factor with business ownership. Something doesn’t work? Learn from it and try a new approach. You have to be able to bounce back.
To quote the iconic Batman series “Why do we fall, Bruce? So we can learn to pick ourselves back up.”
Think of all of the amazing things that wouldn’t be here today if people gave up on their ideas because their first go of it didn’t pan out. We’d really be lacking some really useful inventions and lifesaving technology.
This might be your biggest challenge — it’s hard to keep going when you’ve failed before. But keep pushing! It’ll be worth it when you finally make it work.
