Are You Measuring Your Business’s Success the Right Way?

As a female entrepreneur, you probably get a lot of conflicting information about how you “should” act. Is it OK to be assertive? Or will that make people not like you? Is it OK to be kind, or does that mean people will take advantage of you?

Success is a word we hear thrown around quite often. In all aspects of life, we strive for success. But if you think about it, success is a really difficult thing to define. There’s not one standard for success across the board, so it’s hard to gauge your own progress sometimes. We often look to profitability and increase in sales for success rates. We can even look at an increase in customer interactions and note that as a success. The more reach and money your business has, the more successful it is, right? Actually, that’s not always the case!

The ways you measure your success matter.

You may have been taught to look at statistics when trying to decide who’s in the lead. Whether that be in baseball or business, statistics only tell one side of the story. While the numbers are an important indicator of success, there are a few other key factors that you should look at when determining your business’s success.

Customer Satisfaction

It’s important to make sure you have enough customers buying your product or service to keep your business afloat but the foundation you build to do that can greatly affect how successful you are. satisfaction is a corner stone of that foundation, and it provides another important piece: credibility.

Because it doesn't matter if you have ten thousand customers if none of them are satisfied!

Ensuring customer satisfaction entails customer relationship management and lots of attention to detail. You’re here to solve a problem, so make sure your eyes and ears are open so you don’t miss customer feedback.

Remember: All feedback is good feedback — as long as it can be used to improve your process!

Team/Personal Satisfaction

We know how important it is to make sure the customer is happy, but what about you? Don’t you and your team deserve happiness too? If you don’t run your business from a place of productivity and community, you’ll realize sooner rather than later that you’ll never reach success. If you’ve heard the saying:

“You can’t help others until you help yourself.”

Then you know that success comes from within. Your team can only be helpful to others if their needs are met first.

Run your business in a way that allows your team to foster open communication, and see how much your overall success improves. Your team’s feedback matters just as much, if not more, than your client feedback. They’re on the inside and see what needs to be done from within to improve the overall quality of your brand. Use this to your advantage and know that your team is your business.

Productivity & Use of time

Productivity is a huge factor of success, and it’s one of the most common things that people struggle with in business. There always seems to be a lot to get done and never enough time to do it. Your business should run smoothly with minimal hiccups, but trust us, that’s much easier said than done. We know how difficult it is to nail down a strategy with optimal productivity.

So here’s a few tips we learned the hard way.

If you notice your time is being spent solving miscellaneous problems that pop up throughout the day, you might want to reevaluate how you’re scheduling your tasks. There are so many strategies to increase your productivity, but sometimes you can get lost in the specifics. Focus on creating a game plan each week and each day. If you have long-term goals, you can make a monthly list, too. Don’t overwhelm yourself with too many to-do’s, keep it around 3-5 each day. Schedule in down time and wiggle room for any issues that arise. This can help you stop feeling so scattered trying to accomplish things at the last minute.

So how should you be measuring success?

Overall, success can’t be measured in just one way. There are many factors that you need to take into account when you’re discussing any type of success in life. Focus on the bigger picture and the deeper meaning behind your goals and efforts as an entrepreneur. This will enable you to see your business through a more compassionate lens, and to not be so hard on yourself if your numbers are down. Success is more than profit! It comes from you as an individual.
